the Sonic Marathon

Welcome to Final Boss gaming's fourth marathon, our first in quite a few months. We're kicking Final Boss Gaming back into action with a series that also recently got a second wind: Sonic the Hedgehog! The sonic series has been one of the most famous series, one of the most infamous series, and as a result has a ton of games we can play through. We'll be playing for at least 72 hours starting at 6 p.m. EST on Friday, March 30th for Charity Water, a charity dedicated to bringing clean water to those in need.

When is a game considered completed?

For the classic sonic games (1 through Sonic and Knuckles and Sonic CD), the game will be done after we beat Dr. Robotonik on the final level.

For Sonic adventure, we'll beat Perfect Chaos. For Sonic Adventure 2, we'll beat Final Hazard.

After this point, it gets a little sketchy because some of these games are not the … best. Hopefully we'll beat the Metal Overlord in Sonic heroes, Devil Doom in Shadow the Hedgehog, and finish each character's storyline and beat Solaris in the masterpiece of Sonic 06.

We'll try to reach the ends of Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic and the Black Knight as well as beat the final boss, Dark Gaia, in both the Wii and PS3 version of Sonic Unleashed.

Finally, we're going to wrap up the marathon on a less sour note by beating the Nega Wisp in Sonic Colors and the Time Eater in Sonic Generations.

Wow that's a lot of Sonic games.

Wait so are you guys racing through these games?

There's no better way to capture the spirit of Sonic than by racing (GOTTA GO FAST) and so we're running a double stream. We'll be playing most of the games side by side, and whenever a team finishes the game, it'll get a point and we'll move on to the next one.

For some games though, we won't be racing. Instead we'll be simultaneously playing the two versions of the game (as in the Wii and PS3 versions of Unleashed) or playing Sonic and the Secret Rings side by side with Sonic and the Black Knight so we can actually finish both.

What's this marathon for?

The Sonic marathon is for Charity Water, a fantastic organization that provides clean drinking water to those who need it all around the world. They provide clean water to schools, hospitals, and communities and have been consistently ranked as one of the best charities to donate to: 100% of your donations go directly to their cause!

What're you playing the games on?

We'll be playing the classic sonic games on the Sonic Mega Collection on GameCube along with Sonic CD through the Sonic Gems collection. The Sonic Adventures will also be played on GameCube along with Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog. Sonic 06 will be played on PS3 and 360 while both Secret Rings and Black Knight will be played on the Wii. We'll be playing both the Wii and PS3 versions of Unleashed, colors on the wii, and Generations on PS3 and 360.

I'm not going to be able to watch, will the marathon be recorded?

Yep, the whole marathon will be archived on our twitch.tv account for you to view at any time and hopefully put up on youtube at a later date
